Intestinal Rehabilitation – an Important Basis for the Immune System
The intestine is the largest defense organ against microorganisms and toxic substances in our body. Important parts of this defense are:
- the intestinal wall with the mucous membrane on top of it
- the intestine-associated immune system
- the intestinal flora, a community of various microorganisms.
These 3 areas are the therapeutic basis of intestinal rehabilitation with the aim of:
- Reducing the permeability of the intestinal mucosa
- Building a healthy intestinal flora
- Strengthening the immunological defense
The Intestinal Flora
A healthy intestinal flora is of immense importance for humans. It decomposes the undigested food components and produces certain fatty acids from them. These fatty acids not only contribute to a significantly improved energy production. They are also the main source of energy for the cells in the intestinal wall and thus important for the integrity of the intestinal wall.
A disturbance of the intestine can generally lead to immunological deficits. These can have far-reaching consequences for the whole body – disturbances of the microbiome, a reduced diversity or colonization with pathogenic germs can thus be considered as risk factors for numerous diseases:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Obesity
- Lipid metabolism disorders
- Autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis)
- Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Cancer
- Neurological-psychiatric diseases
The intestinal flora is physiologically established even before and especially at the birth of a child and manifests itself in the first months of infancy.
In adolescence and adulthood, dysbioses can occur, which are characterized mainly by quantitative shifts in the composition or by a general lack of intestinal bacteria.
Causes for this can be:
- Infectious intestinal diseases
- Medications (especially antibiotics)
- Malnutrition, alcohol
- Heavy metal exposure, environmental toxins
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Chronic constipation
- Surgical procedures on the gastrointestinal tract
- Radiation enteritis
The Intestinal Structure
The damage to the intestine or the intestinal flora thus has far-reaching consequences and therefore plays an extremely important role in the diagnostics and therapy of complementary medicine. Our immune system, our skin, the liver and also our brain are closely linked to the intestine.
Goals of intestinal rehabilitation are:
- Restoration of the integrity of the intestine (physiological barrier of the mucous membrane)
- Targeted colonization of the intestine with physiological intestinal bacteria (symbiosis management)
- Regulation of the immune response
- Prevention of infections as a result of pathogen transfer through the intestinal mucosa
- Promotion of metabolism in the intestine and improved absorption of nutrients
- Influencing the pH value (alkalization)
Accompanying an intestinal rehabilitation and depending on the diagnostics, further therapies are included in a holistic concept:
The Intestinal Rehabilitation
The intestinal rehabilitation itself consists of various components that can be put together depending on the clinical picture or health situation.
- in case of positive fungal findings: antimycotic therapy
- in case of pathogenic germs: naturopathic antibiotic therapy
- Acid-base regulation
- Intestinal cleansing
- Prebiotic and probiotic therapy
- special diets for food intolerances or intolerances
A central element of intestinal rehabilitation is the pre- and probiotic therapy as well as the use of other building substances. The aim is to eliminate the dysbiosis and to ensure an optimal colonization of the intestine and thus the functioning of the immune system. This is individually compiled with various bacterial cultures according to the diagnostics to be carried out in advance.
Intestinal Rehabilitation as Part of Holistic Therapies
According to my concept of an early
complementary cancer therapy
I recommend starting such treatment as early as possible and before any surgery or afterwards for chemo- or radiation therapy. Of course, you will also benefit in the later stages.
The better the physical starting situation before the therapies, the faster you can recover, the better the surgical results can be or complications can be reduced. This does not only apply to cancer patients.
There are clear scientific findings on the connection between preoperative nutritional status, the use of probiotics and the reduction of hospital stay, complications and even lethality.
Intestinal Rehabilitation for Prevention and During Pregnancy
An intestinal rehabilitation, detoxification and drainage or acid-base regulation and the diagnostics required for this can also be useful in the context of
prevention
, for couples wishing to have children or during pregnancy. We will be happy to advise you on this.
This can be particularly useful after antibiotic therapies or corresponding burdens, as listed above under causes.
For the diagnostics, I work exclusively with institutes that specialize in these diagnostics. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend online offers from our own experience.
