DMSO Therapy – the Effects of Dimethyl Sulfoxide
DMSO therapy is attributed to a variety of positive effects on health.
DMSO has the following effects:
- anti-inflammatory
- pain-relieving
- anti-itch
- decongestant
- vasodilating
- wound healing or scar-reducing
- muscle-relaxing
- antibiotic (effective against bacteria)
- antiviral (effective against viruses)
- antimycotic (effective against fungal infections) and
- draining
DMSO acts directly in the body cells, penetrates quickly deep into the skin and through cell walls. As a result, DMSO therapy supports and increases the absorption and effect of other pharmacological agents, because DMSO is a good carrier substance for drugs. For this reason, DMSO is also often used in the form of combination preparations. The mechanism of action of DMSO has not yet been fully clarified.
DMSO Therapy
The main application of DMSO therapy is pain, swelling, sprains and inflammation. Chronic cystitis (interstitial cystitis) is the only indication for treatment with DMSO that has been approved by the FDA so far.
However, DMSO treatment can also have a positive effect and ensure a faster healing process in the case of bursitis, damage to cartilage tissue on joints due to wear and tear (osteoarthritis) and joint inflammation (arthritis), which can be accompanied by severe pain and swelling.
However, DMSO can be used for many other indications, as the following overview shows:
Indications for DMSO therapy
- Chronic cystitis
