Acid-base Balance

Acid-Base Therapy – Role for our Health

Acid-base therapy, measured by pH, is crucial for restoring the diverse metabolic processes in our body. In our blood, there are very narrow limits for this value; otherwise, we are not viable. To keep this pH value in the blood constant, the body has various, very sophisticated buffer systems to remove excess acids. In the process, we eliminate acids via the air we breathe, the kidneys, and the skin, thus remaining in balance.

Acids are constantly produced in our body and are supplied from the outside, via food. To ensure a balance in the acid-base balance, we need alkaline substances that neutralize the acids.

If the acidic valences in our body predominate over a long period and our body is no longer able to buffer these acids sufficiently, we develop hyperacidity (acidosis). We do not notice this at first, but if it persists for months and years, it can lead to deposits in the connective tissue and deficits in metabolic performance.

“The damage caused by an imbalance in the acid-base balance in the body can be summarized in 3 groups:

  • Demineralization promotes dental caries, damage to blood vessels, age-related bone fractures, inguinal hernias, intervertebral disc damage, etc.
  • The deposition of substances that are normally excreted promotes rheumatism, arthritis, and gout. Stone deposits in the gallbladder, kidneys, ureter, and bladder are also the result. The loss of the filtration capacity of the kidneys is the starting point for various diseases.
  • With hyperacidity, the body loses immunity to infectious diseases, starting with the simple cold and extending to various severe infections.”1

The good news: We have it in our own hands to keep our acid-base balance in equilibrium. Basically, it can be said that all foods containing protein are also acidifiers.

Acid-Base Therapy and Nutrition

Acidifiers include:

  • Meat, poultry, game, sausage
  • Fish, seafood
  • Curd, cheese, egg
  • Cereals and pasta (bread, rolls, cakes, gateaux, etc.)
  • Nuts (except almonds)
  • Coffee, black tea, alcohol, carbonated beverages
  • Sweets, sugar, ice cream

Base formers

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables (except asparagus and artichokes)
  • Many herbs
  • Mushrooms, champignons, truffles
  • Almonds, sesame seeds, flaxseed, walnuts

A healthy diet is also about a healthy balance. Of course, we also need protein and therefore acidifiers for a healthy diet.

The quantity is crucial and a simple rule: Always combine every meal with protein with sufficient vegetables, salad or fruit. A ratio of 70% to 30% is a good guideline.

The 7 Basic Rules for a Balancing Acid-Base Therapy:

  1. Prefer base formers
  2. Reduce acidifiers
  3. Breathe! Acids are broken down through breathing. Move sufficiently and do sports.
  4. Protect your liver! It is important for regulation, and medications and alcohol burden it unnecessarily. Bitter substances such as artichoke, grapefruit, and many wild herbs are good for you.
  5. Avoid white flour, sugar and alcohol
  6. Sweat! Acid is broken down with sweat. Do sports and then enjoy the sauna.
  7. Reduce stress! Chronic stress has a negative effect on our metabolism through hormonal processes. And once again: Do sports. This reduces stress and works wonders.

Acid-base Therapy in the Context of Cancer Therapy

In the context of
biological cancer medicine
Base infusions can be recommended without reservation as a sensible basic therapy. Improving the function of the basic regulation, detoxifying the mesenchyme, supporting the immune function, and influencing the local tumor environment play a significant role in the context of accompanying cancer therapy.

The importance of acid-base therapy in tumor patients

  • The average pH of tumor tissue is 6.7.
  • Tumor cells are relatively insensitive to pH reductions.
  • The growth optimum of tumor cells is shifted towards a low pH value.
  • Tumor cells can even grow below pH 6.0.
  • Cancer cells lose the p53 gene and thus an apoptosis signal under acidosis and hypoxia.
  • A low pH value worsens the effect of chemo- and radiation therapy

Acid-base Therapy in the Context of other Severe Diseases

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Chronic-degenerative diseases
  • Immune disorders / allergies
  • Pain (fibromyalgia, rheumatism)
  • Heavy metal contamination
  • Osteoporosis
  • Mineral metabolism disorders
